It would seem like a better fit for Lupin than the original giallo used on the show, but that was their most popular color back then. But he just seems like a red car kinda guy.

I agree. Seems like it would have been red. Oh well, maybe the writers thought that since he was a thief, yellow would blend into traffic a little better while he was trying to get away.
